With Star Wars Celebration in full swing, there’s understandably plenty of news streaming from that galaxy far, far away. One of the most exciting nuggets is the release of the first trailer for the Disney+ series Andorwhich takes place five years before the events of A thug. Check it out…
With ringing bells and a soundtrack that has a distinct Hans Zimmer feel (although the real composer is Successionby Nicholas Britell). And the action spans all kinds of planets (yes, we’re a long way from Tatooine), while the feel is very classic star wars.
Diego Luna – who made the Celebration crowd laugh by admitting he’s glad he survived the show – plays the titular Agent Rebel, though the series explores his life before he meets him in A thug.
Andor is planned as a two-season series, with Season 1’s 12 episodes spanning one year and Season 2’s 12 spanning the remaining four. The series finale scene, according to Tony Gilroy, takes you into the events of A thug.
Gilroy – who helped shape A thug in its final form – is in charge of the writing side here, with Toby Haynes, Ben Caro Susanna White and Benjamin Caron on directing duties.
The cast of this one also includes Genevieve O’Reilly (back as Mon Mothma), Fiona Shaw, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough and Stellan Skarsgård. Andor lands on Disney+ on August 31, with the first two episodes launching that day.
